There was great excitement at The Samworth Church Academy today as students collected their A Level outcomes in another year of record-breaking year 13 results at the academy. 

 

The academy's overall Value Added (VA) score has improved significantly, indicating that students are making increasingly strong progress from their starting points.

A particular highlight of this year's results is the excellent performance in A Level subjects, specifically, where the academy's Value Added score has increased, representing an improvement of 0.27 points per student.

 

Carl Bennett, Head of School credits this positive trend with the impact of high-quality teaching, effective support programmes and the determination shown by students throughout their studies, saying he is also delighted that bursary students have once again achieved positive Value Added outcomes, continuing a strong trend over the last two years.

This sustained success, Carl says, demonstrates the academy's commitment to ensuring that all students, regardless of background, are supported to achieve their full potential and access ambitious next steps.

Carl said, “We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 students and all that they have achieved. Maintaining our overall average grade while significantly increasing our Value Added score is an excellent outcome and demonstrates that more of our students are achieving beyond expectations.  

“The improvement in A Level progress is particularly pleasing and is a testament to the dedication of our students, staff and families. We are also delighted to see our bursary students continuing to perform strongly, highlighting the impact of the support and opportunities provided through our sixth form.  We are also extremely proud that we achieved 99.3% A*-E grades achieved from all entries.

“As always, we will reflect carefully on all aspects of the results as we seek to further strengthen outcomes for every learner. Today, however, is about celebrating the achievements of our students and recognising the hard work, resilience and commitment they have shown throughout their time with us. These results continue to demonstrate The Samworth Church Academy's commitment to providing a high-quality post-16 education that enables students to grow academically, personally and spiritually while preparing them for successful futures.

There were some notable results at the academy including student Jack Morton, who excelled with A* in Maths, A* in Business, A in Further Maths and a Merit in AEA Mathematics. Jack is going to study Maths & Economics at the University of Nottingham and said, “All of my teachers have been really supportive and helped push me to the limit of what I can do, particularly all the maths team.”

Student Ellie McGuire achieved an A in Business, B in Biology, and B in Sociology and is going to Lincoln University to study education. Fellow student Daisy Seymour achieved a Distinction in Performing Arts, B in Media, and B in Business. Daisy is going to study Musical Theatre at Addict Dance Academy in Leicester and said, “It’s been so nice coming to a school with such lovely teachers!”

Libby Gascoyne achieved an A* in Sociology, A in English, and B in Biology. Libby is going to the University of Leeds to study Psychology after a gap year and said, “A big thank you to Mr Vallance for helping me get an A* in sociology – he is the best teacher!”

Alex Benson achieved an A in Photography, Merit in Psychology, and Merit in IT. Alex is planning on taking a gap year and then taking an apprenticeship in IT or design.

Alex said, “I’ve been here since year 7 and built a lot of connections with my teachers. I’m a bit sad to leave, as I’ve had a really good time.”

Cerys Cope is planning on going to university to study Dance and gained an A in Dance, Distinction in Drama, and C in Photography. Cerys said, “Thank you to Ms Neea and Ms Gregory, they’ve really helped me out so much and put so much effort into it. Ms Dunn and Ms Gatheral were also amazing!”

Student Evie Moran is going to Lincoln University to study Psychology in Education and hopes to become a primary school teacher. Evie achieved A* in Psychology, B in Geography, and A in Business.

Evie said, “My results are better than I expected! I’ve had some tricky times this year and there’s always been support from school. I don’t think I would have been able to stay as focused as I was without Miss Milne, Mr Hudson and all the Sixth Form team.”
